How Long Is It dot dot dot

Three guys and two chicks make up the engaging Chicago pop band known as Dot Dot Dot. I (as in Roman numeral number 1), the first in a series of three EP's, was released at the end of the summer, and it's new single "How Long" is scheduled for release in the first week of 2010. As the sounds of the eighties continue to re-surface, expect Dot Dot Dot to be at the forefront of the retro revival. With their songs captivatingly reminiscent of eighties heroes like Duran Duran, ABC and Spandau Ballet, it would be hard not to roll down that window and turn up that radio, even if it is winter! "How Long" is available for your pleasure here:

London Town

Hip-hop & Rap aren't always known for their soulfulness, but New York's Theophilus London definitely brings an inspired and smooth sexiness to his words and beats. On the verge of blowing up since he released his free "This Charming Mixtape" towards the beginning of this year, he is certainly continuing to move closer to the prize. Green Label Sound has recently released his new single "Humdrum Town," which is a re-worked version of one of the high points of aforesaid mixtape. A surefire sing-along track, "Humdrum Town" flows along on a sleek bed of neo-soul with dashes of hip-hop, pop & electro. Check it out here:

As Biffy Clyro Turns

Released about a month ago (although not in the U.S. yet), Scottish band Biffy Clyro's fifth album Only Revolutions builds upon the already-raised-bar template of 2007's breakthrough album Puzzle. The songs, whether rocker, mid-tempo or ballad, all share a sense of grandeur that contemporaries like Snow Patrol and Coldplay strive for, but don't pull off quite as consistently as Biffy do.

Like Puzzle, the new album was produced by Gggarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Chevelle) who helps the band create epic soundscapes to match the earnest and anthemic songwriting. Already a critical and commercial smash in the UK, hopefully Revolutions will continue to build their stateside reputation as well.

The album's opening track "The Captain" is it's recently released third single, full of sweeping orchestration and a purposeful, driving beat.

Slated for release as the fourth single after the start of the new year is "Many of Horror," which manages to sound as much pretty as it does powerful.

"That Golden Rule" rocks heartily...

"Born On A Horse" is quirky & cool...

Indian Pride

Santa Monica-based four-piece Chief actually formed at NYU around 2005, and have been honing their atmospheric, bluesy retro-rock ever since. They've recently released their first single "Mighty Proud" in anticipation of their 2010 album, which they've been working on in both L.A. and New York. Having signed with Domino Records (home to Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, etc...), they've enlisted producer Emery Dobyns, who has worked with Patti Smith and even won a grammy for his co-engineering work on Suzanne Vega's 2008 album Beauty and Crime. So needless to say, hopes are high for Chief's success! "Mighty Proud" washes over you with chiming guitars and layered vocals, reaching a resounding crescendo by song's end. Pick it up here:

Outback Dreamers

Australian band Powderfinger have 20 years together and seven albums to their credit, the most recent being the just-released Golden Rule. While they haven't made a huge dent in the worldwide music industry, in their home country they are hugely popular and critically-acclaimed, racking up an impressive total of 15 ARIA awards (the Australian equivalent of the Grammys) to date. Their sound is an earnest brand of pop-rock, imagine Switchfoot or a more rocking Counting Crows and you'll have a ballpark idea of their style. The first single from the new album is the driving "All Of The Dreamers," which we've got for you here:

If you like that, keep ahead of the rest of the block and get the upcoming second single "Burn Your Name" too...

Fertile Little Tattooed Pageant Parents Who Enjoy Baking

The Soup always gets a few good laughs out of me. What's funny about this clip is how frighteningly believable the whole premise is in today's TV age!
