
Santa Monica-based four-piece Chief actually formed at NYU around 2005, and have been honing their atmospheric, bluesy retro-rock ever since. They've recently released their first single "Mighty Proud" in anticipation of their 2010 album, which they've been working on in both L.A. and New York. Having signed with Domino Records (home to Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, etc...), they've enlisted producer Emery Dobyns, who has worked with Patti Smith and even won a grammy for his co-engineering work on Suzanne Vega's 2008 album Beauty and Crime. So needless to say, hopes are high for Chief's success! "Mighty Proud" washes over you with chiming guitars and layered vocals, reaching a resounding crescendo by song's end. Pick it up here:
