Heavy Heroes

The Heavy are a four-piece out of the UK who've just released their sophomore effort, The House That Dirt Built, and it is a stunner. Every single song evokes some classic soul shaker; Some Curtis Mayfield here, some Marvin Gaye there, a little Jimi Hendrix over on the side... Not to say that they sound stuck in the past. Like Gnarls Barkley, The Heavy are re-fitting soul for modern times. THTDB is, however, a more cohesive sounding album than Gnarls have managed to put together as of yet, and that is indeed high praise. Here's the gorgeously mournful tune "Short Change Hero."

  1. Wow! The beginning of this tune reminds me of Ennio Morricones' work on The Good The Bad and the Ugly. Yes, with a little Curtis Mayfield thrown in. Good stuff! Love the site Guys.
